Plan Your Garden of the Gods Elopement in Colorado Springs, Colorado

If you’re looking to have a unique elopement location, look no further than Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A Garden of the Gods elopement can give you so many beautiful backdrops with beautiful mountains in the background and sweeping red rocks surrounding you. This post will help guide you through everything you need to know to plan your Garden of the Gods elopement.

Garden of the Gods Elopement Tip #1:

Where to Fly Into

There are two options of where to fly into for your Garden of the Gods elopement day. Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is conveniently located on the eastern side of Colorado Springs and makes for a super convenient location to fly into. There are direct flights into Colorado Springs from big cities such as Salt Lake City, Chicago, and Phoenix! Depending on where you end up staying in Colorado Springs, Denver International Airport (DEN) is located about an hour and a half north of town and has many more options for direct flights. Fair warning – the traffic between Colorado Springs and Denver can get pretty bad and result in delays!

Garden of the Gods Elopement Tip #2:

How to Obtain Your Marriage License

To obtain a marriage license for your Garden of the Gods elopement day – you’ll want to visit the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder office. As of March of 2021, a marriage license is only $30 to obtain and must be used within 35 days of obtaining it. Prepare for your trip by bringing valid forms of IDs such as passports, driver’s licenses, military IDs, and birth certificates. More information and the online application can be found on the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s office website.

Colorado Elopement Fun Fact:

You Can Self-Solemnize

So… what does this mean?! This means that you aren’t required to have any witnesses in order to be legally married in the state of Colorado! You don’t have to hire an officiant and the two of you saying your vows and signing the paperwork is absolutely enough to make your marriage legal.

Garden of the Gods Elopement Tip #3:

Where Can You Have Your Ceremony?

There are very specific ceremony spots for Garden of the Gods elopements and small weddings that you can find on their website here! Although there is no charge, there are also no reservations and all spots are on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s also not possible to prevent tourists or other park guests from walking around the area of your ceremony! Because of all of this, I highly recommend a sunrise or early morning elopement so that we’re better able to reduce the chance of crowds or a location being used by another couple for their ceremony.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

Is there plenty of parking in Garden of the Gods? While, yes, there are a wide variety of parking areas – even during the winter it can be challenging to find parking as it gets later in the day which is why I always recommend having your Garden of the Gods elopement or wedding ceremony in the early morning hours.

For a PDF map of the park including parking, visit https://gardenofgods.com/images/GoG-detail-Park-Map-2020.pdf.

Are my dogs allowed for my Garden of the Gods elopement or intimate wedding? Yes! Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and picked up after but are absolutely allowed to be present for your elopement or intimate wedding ceremony.

How many guests are allowed to be present? Specific and up-to-date guest information can be found here (https://coloradosprings.gov/parks/page/garden-gods-weddings) but as of March 2021, the maximum number of guests that can be present is 50. I personally would recommend keeping that number significantly lower in order to have an intimate experience and to be able to find sufficient parking.

Where can we buy wedding attire in town? One of the most amazing places to shop that has both dresses and tuxes is Something New Boutique. The people who work there are absolutely lovely and would do an amazing job helping you two pick out something that makes you feel comfortable and confident! For suits and tuxes, we have Gentleman’s Choice Tuxedo and a Men’s Warehouse, to name a couple of options. For dresses, we have Soiree Bridal Boutique, Impressed by the Dress, and Springs Bridal.

Do you know of local vendors that you can recommend? Absolutely! I provide every Colorado Springs elopement couple with a list of vendors based on what they’re looking for on their elopement day including hair and makeup artists and florists.
