Garden of the Gods Elopement Tip #1:

Where to Fly Into

There are two options of where to fly into for your Garden of the Gods elopement day. Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is conveniently located on the eastern side of Colorado Springs and makes for a super convenient location to fly into. There are direct flights into Colorado Springs from big cities such as Salt Lake City, Chicago, and Phoenix! Depending on where you end up staying in Colorado Springs, Denver International Airport (DEN) is located about an hour and a half north of town and has many more options for direct flights. Fair warning – the traffic between Colorado Springs and Denver can get pretty bad and result in delays!

How to Obtain Your Marriage License

To obtain a marriage license for your Garden of the Gods elopement day – you’ll want to visit the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder office. As of March of 2021, a marriage license is only $30 to obtain and must be used within 35 days of obtaining it. Prepare for your trip by bringing valid forms of IDs such as passports, driver’s licenses, military IDs, and birth certificates. More information and the online application can be found on the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s office website.

Colorado Elopement Fun Fact:

You Can Self-Solemnize

So… what does this mean?! This means that you aren’t required to have any witnesses in order to be legally married in the state of Colorado! You don’t have to hire an officiant and the two of you saying your vows and signing the paperwork is absolutely enough to make your marriage legal.

Garden of the Gods Elopement Tip #3:

Where Can You Have Your Ceremony?

There are very specific ceremony spots for Garden of the Gods elopements and small weddings that you can find on their website here! Although there is no charge, there are also no reservations and all spots are on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s also not possible to prevent tourists or other park guests from walking around the area of your ceremony! Because of all of this, I highly recommend a sunrise or early morning elopement so that we’re better able to reduce the chance of crowds or a location being used by another couple for their ceremony.
