Lake McDonald Couples Session | Melissa + Ben

Although we’re all from Great Falls, my friend Melissa and her husband Ben were visiting Glacier National Park at the same time as us over Memorial Day weekend – so we thought why not have a fun couples session at Lake McDonald while we were all there?! It was a bit stormy and cloudy that entire weekend, which is typical for late Spring in Montana, but there’s never a bad day in my book when you’re in Glacier National Park!

I always love how rain clouds bring out the blue tones even more and add so much vibrancy to photos. We started the session at a favorite pull off of mine along the Going to the Sun Road. I love how much room there is to roam around on the shore here and the views are absolutely stunning from this spot right around the middle of Lake McDonald.

After that we made our way back towards the beginning of the Going to the Sun Road at Apgar Village for some pictures at my favorite dock at the beginning of the lake! The waves had gotten even choppier which made it a little hard to keep our balance – but we had so much fun!

The west glacier area of Glacier National Park is the perfect spot to visit in late May. The road that goes all the way through the park usually doesn’t fully open up all of the way until the end of June or early July. Spending your Memorial Day weekend on the west side of Glacier National Park allows you to make the most of what’s open as well as spend time in two of the local cities, Whitefish and Kalispell! My favorite hike to do during that time of year is the Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Lake hike.
